School Meal Arrangements

At Brackenbury we believe that the best option for children at lunchtimes is to have the hot school dinner, provided through our partnership with Eden Catering.  Children are able to choose from a wide selection of meals. The cost of a meal is £1.90. From September 2014 all children in YR, Y1 and Y2 are able to have a Free School Meal. School meals should be paid for in advance. You may pay for a term, half term or week. Please deposit money at the school office in a named envelope.

We believe that the hot school dinner is much better for the children's learning and health.  We recognise evidence that states:

  • Children are better prepared for learning if they eat well

  • Children make more progress if they have eaten the right nutritional lunch

  • Only 1% of packed lunches provide the correct nutrition

  • Eating hot dinners is an important social occasion and the children learn vital skills.
Eden provide all the nutrients that children require through the week.

Packed lunches
Packed Lunches are allowed as well, with the following provisos:
  • • drinks are not brought in glass containers for safety reasons
    no fizzy drinks.
  • no confectionery items are allowed
  • no items containing nuts as other children within the school are allergic to contact with nuts.

Break time snacks

Children are allowed to bring in some bread or fruit for break-times, but crisps, cakes and chocolate biscuits are not allowed.

All classes have access to drinking water for pupils' use. Your child should bring a filled water bottle to school each day, to have available in the classroom when needed. Research has shown that this is beneficial to children's health and concentration. This bottle must be clear with a sports top, contain only water and can be in addition to any fruit or flavoured drink to have with their lunch.
